How to experience authentic Mexican food without leaving Vancouver

In this episode, Riley Murdock eats Mexican food with Vivian Davidson, a local actor and activist. First off, they try authentic tacos from La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop in North Vancouver, made just like they would be on the streets of Mexico. After giving Riley a quick lesson in soccer, Mexico’s most popular sport, the pair head off to The Mexican Antojitos y Cantina on Granville Street, where Riley has his first taste of cactus and has some fun with a sombrero.

Secret Informant is a new web series that puts the spotlight on food and culture. It combines the educational content of a documentary, the spontaneity of a reality show, and the humour of a comedic YouTube video. Each 10-minute episode familiarizes the audience with a distinct cultural or ethnic group by showcasing some of the best their cuisine has to offer.

The concept is simple – the series’ host, Riley Murdock, sits down to eat with that episode’s “secret informant” – someone who, through spending time abroad or family heritage, has become thoroughly familiar with a certain culture. Throughout the episode, the informant interprets what is going on to the host (and the audience), telling the story behind each dish they encounter. The show also introduces us to chefs and owners of restaurants known for making authentic cultural food.
