The Vancouver Park Board is closing Stanley Park tonight at 8 pm as a precautionary measure due to expected winds up to 70-90 km/hr with gusts up to 100+ km/hr.

The peak winds are expected to occur between 8 pm and midnight before tapering off in the morning.

‘Park closed’ signs and barricades on roads into the park and on the seawall will be erected. Anyone in the park will be asked to leave as quickly and as safely as possible.

The Ghost Train in Stanley Park remains closed and will reopen tomorrow at 5 pm.

Residents are cautioned to avoid heavily wooded parks and green spaces where tree limbs can fail in high winds. People should also take extra precautions when venturing onto the seawall during a storm.

The Stanley Park Causeway will remain open to traffic.

Stanley Park will remain closed until Park Board staff have had a chance to assess and clear any damage tomorrow morning.
