Presented by the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts in the Chan Shun Concert Hall, February 15, 2015 at 7pm, Grammy Award-winning composer and producer Terri Lyne Carrington will perform masterful jazz expressions, preceded by award-winning jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant in her Vancouver debut.
Hailed as dynamic, prolific, and influential, Terri Lyne has collaborated with such luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie and Herbie Hancock, among many more in her 20-year career. She is also the fearless leader of the 2011 GRAMMY-Award winning album, The Mosaic Project – a platform that brings together the best in female jazz talent. For this Vancouver performance, Terri Lyne has assembled a diverse ensemble, including Nanaimo-raised trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, vocalist Lizz Wright, saxophonist Tia Fuller, bassist Josh Hari, and guitarist Matt Stevens.
Fellow headliner, 25-year old Cécile McLorin Salvant will offer up a taste of her GRAMMY-nominated and critically acclaimed album WomanChild. Praised by the New York Times as a “virtuoso” alongside the likes of Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan, Cécile’s mastering of the jazz discipline, from tone to technique, is a must see.
