Merritt B.C. hosts country festival August 3-6
Merritt B.C. is set to host the eighth annual Rockin’ River Music Fest this weekend (August 3-6), and it has quite the packed line-up. A country hotspot on the Canada music scene, Merritt is no stranger to big country names taking its summer stages.
Willie Nelson—a legend by most standards—is the big draw of the weekend, bringing along his Family band for the ride and decades of country music hits and prominence. He is the headliner set to close out the festival, so it’s a great idea to stay to the end. 2015 Grammy Award winners and country Top 40 hit-makers The Band Perry will bring sibling talent to the line-up and are slated to perform on the Saturday. Massive acts, Toby Keith, Aaron Pritchett, Brett Kissel and The Washboard Union make the festival a definite heavy-hitter this year. Keith especially has a lot of buzz and will take the stage on the Friday, most likely clutching a red solo cup.
The Nicola Valley vibe is one of the most country experiences music lovers can have in B.C., being home to lush ranch lands and laidback small town culture. The camping experience is the way to go at this festival—as it usually is—and the area is home to cooling lakes and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for cracking a beer and taking a dip. The Rockin’ River Fest is also quite the party, and will be welcoming all ages of fans and country music lovers.
The festivities kick off August 3rd and include family game events, performers like Pritchett and Crystal Shawanda, and the first of the festival’s after hours tailgate parties. The weekend will feature country dance lesson opportunities and plenty of music acts both big and small.
