‘Ask Around’: Photography by Steve Louie at the Remington Gallery & Studio

Apollo Ghosts at Hoko’s, by Steve Louie

Tonight, as part of Music Waste’s art show series, Art Waste, the Remington Gallery & Studio presents Ask Around, a photo exhibition showcasing selected works by Vancouver live music photographer Steve Louie. Louie has spent the past seven years documenting Vancouver’s underground music scene. The works displayed in Ask Around are culled from over 1500 shows he has attended in that time.

Many of the spaces depicted in Ask Around are vestiges of Vancouver’s DIY culture: the Emergency Room, the Peanut Gallery, Goody, and more. If you’ve ever been to a show at an art space, house, or even comic shop in Vancouver, you’ve not only likely stood crammed shoulder-to-shoulder next Louie without knowing it, but you might even find yourself hanging on the walls at the Remington, on display in the background of one of his shots.

The opening of Ask Around runs from 7:00 PM until 11:00 PM tonight at the Remington Gallery & Studio (108 East Hastings, V6A 4J1). Stick around afterwards, as the bands Fake Tears, Village, and Cool will perform as part of Music Waste.
