Begonia gives an inspiring performance at the Fox Cabaret

Begonia’s presence on the Fox Cabaret stage was instantly captivating. With bold and unshakeable vocals, this young diva is a force to be reckoned with and will not be an artist that fills small halls like this for long. It was a treat, to say the least.

Although her new album Fear recently dropped last fall, Begonia is not new to the scene working previously with the Juno-winning ensemble Chic Gamine …another great act that is worth checking out if you haven’t already:

Begonia is making a name for herself not just through her stunning performances and endearing banter, but through her brightly coloured wardrobes that as she puts it, allow her to become “a superhero version of herself”.

Her new record, which she performed at the sold-out Fox, was written and co-produced with Matt Schellenberg and Matt Peters of Royal Canoe, along with Marcus Paquin, who has worked with The National, Arcade Fire and Local Natives to name a few.

Begonia is the real deal and a unicorn that truly breaks the mold. While it’s easy enough to dance and lose yourself in her bands’ soulful grooves, her lyrics are to be heard and hook you instantly. Like this little ditty off Fears that is called Two beers in. It starts off: ‘I’ll be the book that’s always open. Two beers in and still I’m hoping. I’ve never met someone like you’.

If you haven’t checked her out yet, I highly recommend this artist so that the next time she is in town, you get your tickets early because my suspicion is they will sell out fast.
