Gary Clark Jr.: The Blues Burn Brightly

3. Nas

Nas and Gary Clark Jr. collaborated on music for a three-day program covering the NFL Draft in 2012. Together, they revised, recorded, and remixed their own songs. The Nas songs “The Don” and “Train”, and the Clark song “Bright Lights”, were all repurposed for this collaboration. Both men had worked with ESPN before, with Nas contributing a narration for a documentary on Liberian amputee athletes, and Clark having contributed songs for the network’s programs previously. This was their first time working together, though. “I have mad respect for Nas and the things he’s put out there over the years,” Clark said in an interview. “I really enjoyed working on this project with ESPN and look forward to seeing the whole thing come together.”
