Gary Clark Jr.: The Blues Burn Brightly

2. Eric Clapton

The legendary Clapton invited Clark to perform at his Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2010, which meant that Clark got to play alongside wizened blues legends such as B.B. King and Steve Winwood. Clark even performed directly alongside Clapton himself. Clapton wrote a letter to Clark, thanking him for reinvigorating his love for the blues. Clapton even made a surprising (although no doubt flattering) comparison when interviewed by Rolling Stone Magazine: “When I first saw Purple Rain, it had been a while since anything beautiful had taken place. After seeing Prince, I thought, ‘Everything’s going to be OK for a while.’ With Gary Clark Jr., it’s the same thing.”
