eOne’s top-rated animated series PJ Masks is on tour as a hit musical across North America and Vancouver managed to snag a performance last Tuesday. A packed Queen Elizabeth Theatre barely managed to hold the enthusiasm of the little PJ fan kids that came to out to watch their heroes fight crime.
“Seeing their favourite characters from the PJ Masks series come to dynamic life on stage has been a truly super experience for young fans and their families throughout the U.S. and Canada,” says Stephen Shaw, President of Round Room.
The dynamic trio that includes Catboy, Owlette, and Gekko along with a new cast member PJ Robot go up against their fiercest rivals in a battle of epic slimy gooeyness.
So…what should you expect if you are reading this article and you’ve purchased tickets for one of the upcoming shows that are now touring through the US?
If your kid likes villains, they’ll be happy to know that PJ Masks Live: Save The Day! includes all three supervillains: Romeo, Night Ninja and Luna Girl and boy do they cause trouble for our heroic trio.
The stage is set with a full-screen visual experience that will give you and your kids the feeling that you are inside the TV show itself. Catboy, Owlette, and Gekko hop into each different scene with magical displays that will immerse your kids in the wonderful world of PJ Masks.
The one thing that I would work to fix, but this may be different from theatre to theater is the sound quality. I heard a lot of parents and children complaining about the jarring volume at the show. The mix between the pre-recorded tunes and the live performance really could have been better and hopefully, this will improve throughout the tour.
Either way, we need more high-end performances like this for parents and their children in Vancouver and from the looks of the turn-out, there is definitely demand.
While PJ Masks doesn’t really provide much of an educational experience, it’s an entertaining spectacle for families to enjoy and an opportunity to take your little tyke for a night out on the town.
