On Wednesday, August 27th, The Pacific National Exhibition, in partnership with Vancity Credit Union was successful in diverting 94.9% of the day’s waste from the landfill. This included 2,070 kilograms of organic matter, 165 kilograms of mixed containers, and 120 kilograms of solid waste making the Fair’s first Zero Waste Day a success.

Volunteers from Vancity and Green Chair monitored the new diversion stations installed throughout the fairground while PNE site clean-up teams and WCS Recycling separated the matter.

Michael Woodman, PNE Sustainability Development Manager, was pleased with the results stating “With such a great response from the community and such a tremendous effort from our volunteers, we are looking forward to implementing more Zero Waste Days into the PNE’s future.”
