Featuring 13 powerful singers accompanied by 11 talented members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, this story follows an overweight child with a vivid imagination, who is tragically shunned and bullied daily by his peers. Even though supported by the unyielding love of his grandmother, the boy’s courage transforms into the same outward expressions of violence that he has to endure – becoming the bully himself. Supported by immersive, larger than life animations by Vancouver creative studio Giant Ant, this deeply personal look at one child’s broken world confronts the uncomfortable reality of our flawed culture – our societal struggles with fear and insecurity coupled with a distressing dismissal of those who are different.
