Early Music Vancouver (EMV) prepares for a dramatic conclusion to their 2014/15 season, as part of the popular Chan Centre Series, with a vivid presentation of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, May 1, 2015 at 8pm at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC.
Featuring the vibrant sounds of period instruments as played by the PBO, this concert will offer a dramatically new listening experience for those accustomed to hearing the Four Seasons performed by modern symphonic orchestras and solos. At the helm of this esteemed ensemble is award-winning violinist Monica Huggett, who will lead from playing the violin – a means of conducting that was popular in the 18th century, but is not regularly seen today.
This momentous concert will mark the very first time in EMV’s 45-year history that they have presented a full performance of Vivaldi’s best-known masterpiece, the Four Seasons. Composed around 1720, this renowned work features four concertos, each distinctly evoking the essence of their individual season.
