The Vancouver Art Gallery’s project Offsite, is currently presenting artist Kota Ezawa’s large-scale wooden tableau picture entitle Hand Vote at the West Georgia Location. Hand Vote is described as being a “visual representation of democracy by one of its most prevalent signifiers: the vote” and is a welcome addition to the Vancouver’s ever growing artistic cultural development.
Since Offsite’s inception in 2009, the gallery has presented numerous artists works including O Zhang, Ken Lum, Heather and Morison, and Elspeth Pratt. According to Kathleen Bartels, director of the Vancouver Art Gallery, “Offsite allows the Vancouver Art Gallery to expand its dynamic contemporary art program beyond the walls of the building to engage an even broader audience in new and exciting ways.”
While Vancouver is not well known around the world for its artistic culture, it is projects such as these promoted both by the Gallery and supported by the Vancourite community that really give this young city a bright future.
