Everyone knows about the big furniture chains like The Brick and Ikea, so we’ve decided to instead share some hidden gems in Greater Vancouver with awesome selections of home decor and furniture:

1. LQ Furniture (Richmond)

LQ furniture photoLQ Furniture is a hidden gem, and it’s definitely not your traditional furniture store. Located off the beaten path in Richmond, they don’t even look like a furniture store with their huge bay doors that open to provide an open and airy space for shoppers. LQ offers a mix of modern, whimsical, rustic, romantic and luxury designs. Their new Canadian-made and imported furniture is of great quality and they have plenty of selection, with options to customize colours and fabrics. This beautiful furniture shop has several great deals right now, as they’re clearing out floor models of sectionals, bed frames and more in order to make space for their new fall products. Some of these floor models are even being sold at cost. The furniture itself is stylish and on-trend, such as mirrored nightstands and modern upholstered bed frames, so it’s like shopping in Yaletown without the Yaletown price tag. The staff are young and fun – not stuffy salesmen – and they don’t hover, which is always appreciated. The store is also unique in that it has a friendly shop dog for the kids to play with, and even arcade games.

Well, I have great news: The Found & The Freed does all that digging, hunting, exploring and dirty work for you. Then, after carefully selecting great finds from thrift shops, flea markets, yard sales, estate sales, auctions and antique sales – they clean the pieces up, work on them and sell the one-of-a-kind treasures to you. The passionate staff will find antique, vintage or unique used furniture and cool accessories, and before selling it to you, they might fix a few broken drawers or switch out the knobs, or give the piece a wax job, or refurbish it. This is upcycling at its finest and the best way to make sure your home furnishings are unique conversation-starters that stand out. 11. Homesense (Fairview)
Homesense photoYou’ve probably heard of Homesense – a fabulous store with plenty of home decor items and lots of trendy furniture – but what you might not have known is that they get new and different stock in each and every day. The best way to find a unique treasure for your home is to check back often. Sometimes they only get one or two of a particular item, and then it’ll never be seen in the store again. My giant white pineapple jar was a one-off, and I was lucky to have checked the store that day and quickly grabbed it. It sits atop my mirrored dresser, and looks fantastic. The Fairview location is one of my favourites, but they have other locations downtown, in Coquitlam and in Maple Ridge. Each location carries different pieces, so it’s smart to check out more than one store.
