For the young alt-folk duo Fionn the hardest part about adapting to the new way of life in the wake of COVID-19 is not being able to play shows. The duo, consisting of twin sisters Alanna and Brianne, have been performing since they were 12. By their mid-teens they’d already gotten used to playing shows almost every weekend.
“We had a show at the Railway on April 10th that got cancelled,” Alana says. “A big thing for us about this COVID thing is not being able to play shows. It’s going to be hard getting used to not playing for a little while.”
The quarantine hasn’t completely slowed them down though. The duo’s new single “Mattress on the Floor” was released on April 17th by 604 Records.
About the song, they say, “I feel like we all build ourselves timelines as to where we’re supposed to be at a certain age. It felt like we weren’t where we wanted to be. But then we just found the beauty in being with our friends and going to shows and becoming inspired. It’s good timing to release this song because I feel like it’s relevant to what’s happening in the world right now.”
Despite not being able to play shows, the duo has continued to push themselves on social media, streaming performances from home on Facebook and Instagram. See their cover of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” here.
And you can expect to see more released from them later in the year, including their next single, and a six-song EP that should come this summer.
