Cody ChesnuTT “I’ve Been Life”

In the new video for “I’ve Been Life”, Cody ChesnuTT takes us on a tour through New York’s historic Bedford Stuyvesant neighbourhood (whose past inhabitants include the Notorious B.I.G. and Jay Z), accompanied by a group of colourfully clad stilt walkers known as the Brooklyn Jumbies.  The track drips with an oldschool soul sound that’s reminiscent of Motown in the 70’s, which is particularly fitting as ChesnuTT bears an uncanny resemblance to Marvin Gaye; although Marvin never performed in an old army helmet, as far as I can tell.  Full of bright colours and vibrant movement, “I’ve Been Life” is a celebration of the culture and resilience of the African diaspora, with Cody ChesnuTT on the front lines in the fight to keep the soul alive.
