The new live video for “State of the Art” captures Jim James performing at the McKittrick Hotel (a reference to Hitchcock’s Vertigo) during Sleep No More, an immersive and interactive work of theatre that is loosely based on Macbeth. The video opens with a behind the scenes interview with James discussing his views on technology and the meaning of the song, and why he was inspired to play at Sleep No More in the first place. Watching his performance is a bit of a trip; as the camera pans around the room we see the audience standing silently wearing matching masks, which gives the whole thing an eerie, almost mystical allure.
