Wax Idols are an all-women, post-punk outfit from Oakland whose latest album, Discipline and Desire, sees the band going in a darker direction than their debut by fully embracing the moody darkness of their charismatic frontwoman Hether Fortune, who also happens to be a working dominatrix. The new video for “When It Happens” was shot entirely in black-and-white with a very back to basics style which allows Wax Idol’s shadowy mix of doom and gloom to take centre stage. Wax Idols are definitely on the come up, and with haunting melodies that shimmer and echo, it’s not hard to see why.
